Okay, you had me in stitches! Bet you wish you were in more stitches than you were, huh? That's just too funny!

Praying for Anne today! We need fun people like her (and you) to stick around as long as possible!
  • Jesslyn42 · 4 months ago
Oh, thank you for sharing that story. I would never make fun of you for having "woobie" because I have something similar. Anyway, I will definitely be praying for Anne today. There are just so many things going on with so many wonderful people lately and prayers are just a MUST right now. Thank you, again, for always being so willing to share such incredible stories with all of us.

Still praying for you and Todd, as well.
  • Dana Jj · 4 months ago
Ok, I have to laugh about the Woobie. I know EXACTLY how you fell. Sending prayers for her today.
  • Rachel · 4 months ago
    Will totally pray!
And now to share a similar situation with you. My sister got a teddy bear for her 2nd birthday over 35 years ago. She has slept with that bear every night. When she was 17 she was going on a missions trip to England. My mom had to hide it from her to keep her from taking it because she was afraid that 'Shagga', as he was called, would get lost. Just like your 'woob' did. We dressed him in a tux bow for her wedding and she took him on her honeymoon. He now has a place of honor on her bookshelf in her bedroom. She even named her blog after him.

*steps to the microphone* Hi, my name is Leslie... I'm 30 years old, and I have a woobie. *The crowd says "Hi Leslie"*

Seriously... I have my blanket, which is so worn and ratty, but I love it, and sleep with it every night...home or away. I never leave it behind. Not even on my honeymoon, not even when I went to the hospital to have each of my 2 children. My sister, who is 5 years younger than me, also has a blanket (2 actually) that look more like strings than a blanket. So, you are not alone!

Here's to the Linus' of the world!
  • ninesandquines · 4 months ago
:-( your woobie story made me sad! i would have lost it too....i STILL have a stuffed puppy that i grabbed at a store when i was 6 months old and would NOT let go of so my father HAD to buy it for me (i had him wrapped around my finger early!)....."puppy" sits on a dresser in our spare bedroom. he is 40 years old. and when my mom stays over, she looks at it and smiles remembering the joy it brought me and the memories she has of me with it throughout my childhood.....praying for anne today also.....

Awww, girl.... how can we make fun? We all have a woobie in our life!!!!

Praying for sweet Anne today! :)
  • thepilotswife · 4 months ago
Ok. I'm really glad to hear you say that you still have (had :( ) a "woobie" because my husband still sleeps with a pillow case with lace on the edge that he had as a toddler. He's 25.

I'll have to tell him he has a kindred spirit! ha!
  • KDMF · 4 months ago
I'm sorry about the loss of your 'woobie' - I never had anything like that and neither have my boys attached themselves to one item...must as I tried in the hopes of promoting a full night's sleep.

I will keep Anne in my thoughts, heart and prayer.
  • Witheagerhands · 4 months ago

I am so sorry about your woobie. I still have my childhood blanket and don't know what I would do if it was gone.
I will be praying for Anne. My dad had SVT surgery just a few weeks ago. The doctors were surprised at how bad his actually was. The surgery went fabulous and my dad has not felt this good in 15 years! He is 67 and back to his love of jogging again.
I know Anne will come through with flying colors.

My sweet sister lost her own "blankey" at age 18 when the precious woman who first made it for her took it home and repaired it, then mailed it back. It never arrived, and wasn't insured or tracked because it really had no monetary value. I try to keep her hopes up with the thought that someday, when she is old and wrinkled and in the home somewhere, her "blankey" will miraculously be delivered 70 years later after being discovered in the back room of some post office.... So sorry for your loss! I guess you will be a more understanding mamma than I sometimes am about our missing baby or blanket! God Bless.....and I am praying for your friend!
  • Lauren · 4 months ago
Angie! First of all, I am so sorry that you lost your "Woobie." I know how painful that must be. I never had any type of lovie growing up and always wanted one. Second, I think it's hilarious that you call it a "Woobie." A friend of mine has a daughter that is two years old. When she was born, her grandmother made her a blanket and a travel-size blanket. It's a "Woobie" and a "Travel Woobie." How funny that you both call them by the same name! I love it!
  • abandaudsmom · 4 months ago
Did you ever find your Woobie? I am so sad for you but have to laugh at the 95% naked Angie opening the door to a LARGE man. Seriously, I can just picture the look of shock on your face and the laughter in Todd's voice when you told him. :)

I just visited Anne's website. Pretty great writer if you ask me. I loved her topic on boobies. Being a VERY large chested woman, I understand her thinking of dressing modestly but it is very hard to find clothes now days that don't reveal something. I try my best but sometimes you have to get clothes that you can wear.

Anyway, thanks for the post and I will pray for Anne and her surgery today.

Cracking up at the shower story :) Feeling sorry that you lost your "woobie" :( Praying for your dear friend (even if she is an attempted shower killer).
  • jen · 4 months ago
OK, now I don't feel so bad for letting my 9yr old son still sleep with his bear. I keep asking him if he wants to get rid of it. He starts to cry at the thought of puttin git in the keepsake box. I guess he's not ready. :)

    I'm praying for Anne also.
    God bless.
  • LLacy · 4 months ago
So sorry to hear about the woobie : ) I have a dirty old baby blanket (or remnants of one) that I still sleep with, so I will pray for your loss. The shower story was was so hilarious!
  • Casey · 4 months ago
Ah yes, gotta love how hotels on this side of the world save power- by not allowing you to have light! I know it's so you don't leave them on when you leave the room, but what about times like that where poor innocent girls are in the shower!

Lots of prayers for the surgeon, the patient, and her family.

    Angie,

I love following your blog. Your words and your story are such an inspiration. The way you talk about Christ and what he has done in your life is so wonderful, and I hope that one day I can also find words to express my love for Him that way. I am expecting my first child...a little girl that is due December 22, and was told yesterday that some of my tests were abnormal. I learned that it is nothing that will affect my little girl, but could be of risk to me since it is nothing that can be treated while I am pregnant. I was pretty torn by the news at first, but realized that God has a plan for me and though I don't know what it may be, He knows what He is doing and I have faith that I will be ok. I just wanted to thank you so much for your story and your blog and tell you that your words truly are an inspiration.

    Thank you so much.
    Monica

My mom has something similar to your "woobie." We call it her "lovey." Years ago when her and my father divorced she had remarried, my step father had a sleeping bag that they finally need to get rid of so he had thrown it in the trash. He walked by the said trash can and noticed that the sleeping bag had small squares cut out of it??? So come to find out my mom had cut the fabric into small squares, she would rub the fabric with her fingers. Well a few years ago as my husband and I were leaving there house he happen to reach in behind the couch pillow and pulled out a "sock." My little sister started laughing and saying that is moms "lovey." So she has went from the sleeping bag fabric to socks. She takes it with her every where she goes. Even if she has to keep it in her purse. I guess this is a comfort thing for her. It has something to do with the little balls on the heal of your socks the she likes to rub???

Gotta love a friendship like that. I am blessed to have a handful of those friendships and I feel like they are gifts straight from my Father in Heaven. I truly don't know what I would do without them....

    Praying for your friend today.
  • mollieh1969 · 4 months ago
I can totally relate to the woobie. My mom has had a woobie as long as I can remember. She has a ratty old sock with soft frilly lace on the end. It is the nastiest looking sock I have ever seen. At some point she retires the sock and gets a new one. My sisters and I would hide it from her, until she was so mad that we knew we better give it back before we got into trouble.

I have a woobie that goes everywhere with me, even on vacations because I CANNOT sleep without it. My woobie is e neck pillow that is covered in fabric from a dress that my step-mother wore to my wedding. She passed away 6 years ago, so it is very special to me. My husband knows not to hide it from me, because I will not go to sleep until I find it.

The shower story was hilarious! I will definitelty be praying for your friend.
  • misslissa · 4 months ago
I mourned with you over Woobie. How awful.
Can I also add here that we stayed in a Korean hotel while picking up our son this spring that had the rigged lights as well. On our LAST day of a week-long trip, we figured out you could stuff ANYTHING down into the slot to make the lights turn out...it didn't have to be the key. <Bang head with hand here>.

BEST BEST BEST BEST BEST FUNNY POST EVER, Angie!! Yes, I am screaming it in all CAPS.

I LOVE this story, love hearing about your travels to Uganda and India, love hearing about the fun you have with your friends.

And for what it's worth, I have an orange blankie. I call it "owange bwankie", and I take it with me whenever I travel anywhere, or sleep anywhere else than home. I actually wish I could take it to work with me, however, being that I work for the government, it might not quite be the right environment for that... just sayin'. I think hubby is jealous of it, secretly of course. Yeah.

So, you never did find woobie? I'm so sorry :o( I do understand.

Praise The Lord for Anne having a successful surgery!! GOD ROCKS!!!

I must confess. I too have a "woobie" of sorts. I've always had some type of woobie, though not always the same one, you know, due to fabric disintegration and loss. When I was around 6 or 7, I remember keeping a ragged flannel nightgown as my woobie. I also kept the pillow my mother had made for me (stuffed with tiny cut-up foam pieces - or maybe the foam separated by itself over the years) when I was little. I've replaced the original pillow over the years, making a new case and replacing the stuffing, always using tiny cut-up foam pieces. I now have a favorite pillowcase for that homemade pillow, and yes, that pillow and pillowcase went all the way to China with me in 2002 when I got to travel with my sister and her family when they adopted their second daughter. I so understand a "security" item. Sorry yours got lost!!!

I have not been able to be on here for a while & I must say, sitting in my hotel room in Seattle (no kids, no hubby) I was completely cracking up!! This is all sooo like something that would happen to one of my girlfriends & me. I haven't even read enough to know where you were, but seriously, thanks for the laughs & giggles!!

I will definitely say a prayer for your friend Anne. Blessings to you!!

I had a "woobie" and I took it on my honeymoon. Poor new husband, didn't know what to think as my shredded blanket climbed in our newly shared bed. In the fog of happiness that came with being on my honeymoon, my blankie got left in the bed and taken out with the sheets when there were changed. It was a VERY sad day, I miss it often. It's a good friend or husband that doesn't make fun of your woobies. will pray for your friend Anne.

Sorry and hope you found it.

Oh, and most definitely praying for Anne. :)

BTW, your shower story--and the small hand-towel coverall reminded me of being at the OB/GYN. Seriously! Crappy paper? Ridiculous. Who can cover anything with that?

    Humbly praying......

I still have the remnants of my baby blanket. I finally gave up sleeping with it when I had my son - I figured I shouldn't be sleeping with a baby blanket when I have a baby myself. My mother made my son a replica of my blanket when he was born. Guess who is sleeping with it now - me!! Yes I stole it - a totally Mother-Of-The-Year kind of thing. Thankfully he never got too attached! Just want to let you know that I always come to your blog for inspiration. It has made me feel comforted during a very difficult time. Your daughters are beautiful.

Thanks for the lovely introduction to Ann. I will definitely be praying for her!

As for you and your woobie, I sometimes imagine there is a good chance my son and his woobie will be together into adulthood and only parted by force. His love for his woob is deep, cross-continental and defies preschool regulations. If you want a chuckle, you can check out this tribute to his woobie from a while back - the pictures are what make it! http://thegypsymama.com/2009/06/02/the-more-thi...

It made my day to know you were still so attached to yours. And I can truly imagine the pain of losing it! **BIG HUG**

I am so sorry you lost your woobie. I completely understand and would be devastated as well. I've been sleeping with a teddy bear that my Grandmother gave me when I was 2 years old...that's 33 years now and I am not ashamed to admit it and God graciously sent me husband who completely understands that I cannot, for the life of me, fall asleep without that bear. I've tried and I simply cannot fall asleep without it. He's even quite the world traveler too. The bear has seen Seoul, South Korea, - Nagoya, Japan - New York City, - Paris, France, - Provence, France and never once does he get checked with my luggage out of fear that they would lose him and I would forever be sleepless in Nashville. We've even started taking pictures of him at our travel spots...God bless my husband!

  • lizkath1 · 4 months ago
Angie, I swear, you are right up there with my best friends, because not only can you make me cry like a baby, you can make me laugh so very very hard. This: "She is my precious." Too funny. I'm sorry you lost her, but I love how you turn it around to a story to cherish.

My best friend in college and I had our one and only fight (ever, to this day) in the spring of our senior year. I left for the library, and immediately e-mailed her an explanation of my stress and an apology for my reaction. She, on the other hand, wrote me a lovely note to the same effect, rolled up like a scroll and bound with two strings of beads, and left it on my bed. I wore those beads like bracelets for years, until they finally broke while I danced at her wedding. And I wasn't sad to lose them, because somehow that seemed exactly right. So maybe, if you had to lose your woobie, there was probably something right about doing it in a place that wrought such effect on your heart. These things are not accidents; He designs them on purpose.

How did the surgery go? This makes me nervous because:

My 14 yr. old daughter was diagnosed with SVT about 6 weeks ago. She is away at camp right now for the first time. She had an "event", as the doctor calls them, while at camp and the EMT's had to be called. By the time the EMT's got there, her heart rate had returned to normal. Scary....

Hope Ann is doing OK today.

Hey Angie, I thought that Selah's new CD wasn't being released until the 25th, so I was surprised when it was already out at Lifeway today. And even though I have already pre-ordered a copy to be delivered on the 25th, I decided to buy another copy today because I just couldn't wait!!! And because I thought I would send a copy to a friend who just lost her husband. I just wrote about the song, "Unredeemed" on my blog. The last line really gets to me...."It may be unfulfilled. It may be unrestored, but you never know the miracle the Father has in store." Made me think that our son Ethan would never have been born if we had not lost our twins, and perhaps we will have children in the future that might not have been if we had not lost Noah. No matter what, I know that our pain and sorrow will not be left "unredeemed". Thanks to Selah for this amazing CD...it is such a blessing and encouragement to my hurting heart!!! And Todd's vocals are absolutely phenomenal as usual!
  • lisacollinsworth · 4 months ago
I got a sick feeling after I posted that last comment that I might be misunderstood...my Noah can NEVER be replaced just as your sweet Audrey could never be replaced, but I guess I just pray that someday I may be able to view the loss of Noah as God paving the way for another miracle in our lives...whether that be through having another child or by the impact we can have on others' lives through the story of our sweet Noah. Hope that makes sense! Ok...maybe I can sleep now.

Okay so I had to comment because the SAME thing happened to my "rabbit" I had it since 3 months old. Slept with him every night, went everywhere with me, first day of kindergarten, 1st grade...you get the picture. I was 21 and in South Padre Island for a worship conference and my rabbit got swept up with the hotel sheets never to be seen again. I mourned him soooo bad. I cried and cried. I sooo feel your pain!!!

I had a woobie for 29 years. It was once a quilted baby blanket, but it had been loved so much it was see through, though it was still in one piece. I slept with it every night and it went everywhere with me. I was volunteering as a house mom at a Christian restoration home , and twice a month I would do a 24 hour shift. One day I accidentally left my memory foam pillow there with my woob tucked into the pillowcase. I was too embarrased to tell anyone about it. Well, it was a week before I could get back there to retrieve it due to some nasty ice storms and in that time one of the women had stolen my pillow and thrown away the "nasty" blanket inside. I was calm about the whole thing but told them they were lucky I loved Jesus! Reading your story made me grieve all over again. My sweet Mom made me a new one, but it's not the same.
