didn't see the tweets, hope i win a CD, and wish i could come to the conference!
  • Chele A. Myears · 3 months ago
Been keeping my fingers crossed that I will win a CD! I will keep checking back to see/hear your news! You have me very curious and excited!

PS I can't believe how people act sometimes. Why would it be funny to hack into someone's twitter and make stupid/inappropriate tweets. I don't see the humor in that at all! The nerve of some people. :( Glad I didn't read them.
  • jessicabenenati · 3 months ago
Ooh, I would love to go to the conference and I can't wait till you post about the cd!

  • lisacollins1997 · 3 months ago
    Dear Angie,
I have been anxiously waiting for the update on the DC*B giveaway. Then I felt selfish for wanting it so very badly. So, whenever I logged in to see if you had announced the winners, I would pray for you and your family instead. Hope all is well with you. PS- I too am a huge fan of the dot, dot, dot. They're my favorite puncuation!
  • Bina · 3 months ago
YOU are so adorable that you make me think of letting go of my own comma fetish,,,,,,,,,nah. Maybe tomorrow!
    Hugs and blessing to you!

Oh, you always make me smile! :) I don't think I'll be able to get over using commas or ellipses!

Praising along with you that your book editing shouldn't be too much work!

Same issue - always wondering if I have way to many commas in my blog writing. Oh well,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,! Love the DCB!!
  • mnunnally · 3 months ago
I had the same problem with my twitter account. It would only show on my blog twitter updates not on actual twitter. I thought I had taken care of the problem, but the next day was the same thing again. I finally just had to take my twitter updates off the blog.

So excited for you about your book. What great joy to have your book moving along so nicely!
  • JD_Ladybugs999 · 3 months ago
You are adorable. Absolutely adorable. Commas and all.
  • sivjeparish · 3 months ago
That is ok Angie!! I have a deeply passionate, yet equally unhealthy love of exclamation points!!!!
But then, someone has to love all the commas and exclamation points that get left out of text messages and tweets, right????!!!! So I figure I just use as many as possible, so none will feel unappreciated!!! (oh, question marks are probably underappreciated too!)

I am so happy with you about your book!!!!
  • KelliRS · 3 months ago
I'm the same way with exclamation marks!!!
I always have to go back through anything I type and replace most, if not all, my ending punctuation! It's become a habit to end all my sentences with a !!!
I guess I'm just an excitable gal!
So sorry about the twitter thing. I forget Candice has a blog now. I'm off to check it out!
  • lisacollinsworth · 3 months ago
I SOOOOO wish I lived closer to Maryland. My husband and I want to meet you and your precious family so badly!

I too, am very, very fond of the comma!! I think they make sentences look smarter. LOL
  • ginabaynham · 3 months ago
Delighted to hear how little editing will need to be done on the book, well done!
I, think, you, write, just, fine, !!!!! :)

I am an editor, and I love commas too. Apparently my authors are better grammarians (in some ways) than I, because I put commas in and then the copyeditor takes them out!
  • Sarah_G · 3 months ago
I think you should tell your publisher that you are targetting the younger generation....and they NEVER take a breath between sentences. I've learned to control my comma urges....but as you can see....the pregnant pauses of periods are proving hard to supress.

    Hugs,
    Sarah
  • Jennifer · 3 months ago
I have to say, I have that same unhealthy love of commas! ;) Congratulations on the good news though!

    Angie,
I just have to tell you that you are such an inspiration to me. I check your blog, rather frequently I might add, b/c it is so uplifting to me. Right now I am going through something with the Lord and reading your blog helps to guide me and inspire me!!!
Thanks so much...and I am extremely fond of the...............(periods)..as all my sentences in my blog contain them...lol..
    Have a Blessed weekend

You know I'm going to have to call you JEWEL for that, right? :) Although I'm 100% certain while she's married to her commas, she's been having an affair with the dashes lately. :) Love you!

you have ablessed weekend as well. Would absolutely love to attend the womens conference... right my husband is on partial unemployment, and I am a stay at home mom... so let's just say not in budget. I will be praying that the Lord gives you His word to touch and pierce through the hearts of many women. Ang, you have a blessed gift... use it.
  • lindsaybarr · 3 months ago
    You are too cute!!
  • Melissa Davis · 3 months ago
You, are, hysterical!!! I love all punctuation marks equally, ....apparently. Someone needs to use all the ones that get left out of other people's writing....you know, all those people who don't seem to love any punctuation. I really love to cover all the left out periods with the ....pause....thing. When I was teaching my little autistic guy to write stories, he put commas between every word. I'm not sure why, and we finally convinced him that was too many commas. You'd like him. :)

My cousin got to go to the DCB release party/concert in Texas. Cool pics and everything. Only a little jealous.

Congratulations on the great book news. I'm not surprised at all, as I think you are an amazing writer, commas and all.
  • myheartsgivingbirth · 3 months ago
I have a thing for ellipses...I confess! I am thrilled that your edits will be a simple fix and I cannot wait to read it...you are an unbelievable writer and storyteller!

Have you ever read the book "Eats Shoots and Leaves?" It's a humorous look at grammar and punctuation history and is totally nerdy, but I really loved it. My favorite "rule" in the book is "Don't use commas like a stupid person." Really. That's what it says. Anyway, just thought I'd add that.

Laughing at your "unhealthy love of commas" because my husband has that, too. He is a seminary student and I have to proof his papers. When in doubt, leave it out is my motto!
  • andrea · 3 months ago
I also tend to overuse the comma, I've tried to write a sentence without any but failed. I also "overuse" quotation marks.
Congrats on the speedy editing, I can't wait to read the book!
  • Cheryl L. Seehausen · 3 months ago
Does less editing mean that the book will be out sooner??? :-) I can pray can't I?
  • Shawna&Co. · 3 months ago
I, have, problems, with, commas, too. It's great hear you won't have to edit very much. How I hate editing! I'm excited for the announcement :)

Speaking of twitter,,,,,,Have you had any issues with half naked women wanting to be your friend? I have to block 3-4 a week and they are driving me crazy! I don't know they think I like that!
  • pridelandsmommy · 3 months ago
I totally abuse "!!!!!" but I am an equal opportunity abuser of all punctuation marks.

btw, I have K-LOVE playing online and David Crowder is playing. (How He Loves).....nice.

I received my thank you card from Candace today in the mail.......what a sweet soul...

Oh, and I am not sure if I ever made it on the list for the book.....I would still love one, but I am a slow reader as it is......so I'll probably be only getting through chapter One when y'all are onto the next book. (don't know why I just used y'all.......I'm in New England......guess I just am feeling your southern hospitality). Would still love it if you can spare an extra copy, if not....I will try to pick up a copy at Barnes and Noble soon enough.

I could not tell from the info on their website which day you will be speaking and if it will be in Chantilly, Virginia or at the church. Let me know when you have a chance.

I had the same Twitter issue.....people blaming me for being a bad person :( I was taken out of a contest because my Twitter updates are on the side of my blog :(
  • rachelizabeth · 3 months ago
I overuse parnetheses (seriously - I'm always going back and editing sentences to take out the parentheses). Oh - and I overuse hyphens as well. :)

That is so terrible about the Twitter hackers. I don't get why people would want to do that. It's senseless to me. It's just dumb.
  • MommyAngela · 3 months ago
Oh, I love the semicolon; there's just something about it!

Actually, in your sentence, there *should* have been a comma, based on proper grammar rules.

She informed me (with Christian love) that I have an unhealthy love of the comma and I tend to agree.

"I tend to agree" is a separate sentence with its own subject and predicate. Therefore, you need a comma to separate it from the first sentence.

But I've been out of the classroom for 3 1/2 years, surrounded by Elmo and diapers, so I'm a little rusty. LOL
  • Heather · 3 months ago
    i think you're right! :)
  • gitzengirl · 3 months ago
I was so good about punctuation until I became a blogger. Now, because it's so conversational, I've become addicted to ellipses and run on sentences... all of my professors would be mortified... and if I would have written like this at the magazine... let's just say... they would have fired me...

    ... :)
  • thomastroops · 3 months ago
This fall I'm reading Les Miserables by Victor Hugo to our precious children as we are moving to London and are planning on seeing it for our 19th anniversary in January. Writing is so objective. Your publisher would have had a hayday with Mr Hugo. The man could rock a comma!

Through this move my Lord is making it ever clear that He is never late, He is never early, but He is always right on time! If I believe it, my actions and attitudes must follow.
  • Franthomas · 3 months ago
You crack me up!! I've completely forgotten all proper punctuation and have no idea how to use what any more! :)

So very proud of your book. I truly cannot wait to read it.

Thank you for blessing me in so many ways.

Well thanks to the new post I can post a comment again!
Why do people have to do that? Hacking into accounts, causing trouble, and what's the matter with comma's anyway?
    Continuing to lift up prayers!
Psalms 34:4-7 I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed. This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.

I read your blog every day (just never comment because of time). I cracked up this morning when I read about your obsession with commas and ellipses. Me too!!! But, I *think* that the previous sentence you mentioned actually should have had a comma. I think you have to have a comma before and when it is connecting two complete sentences. For some reason, that made me laugh this morning (it's early....) to think you resisted a comma where one maybe should have been. I could be wrong, but that's what I remember form teaching 5th graders. (I'm not being critical....I just had to share that your punctuation struggles made me giggle this morning! I hope I didn't offend you in the process.)

I am eagerly anticipating your new book, and I finished "Crazy Love" earlier this summer. What a life-changing book for me. Great book for your book club!

While I am commenting....do you know where I can get the "boy" version of "I Will Carry You"? I have a friend who lost a son two years ago, and I think she would really love to hear it.

Crack me up! I too have an 'unhealthy love' of commas and exclamation points. :) That's hilarious that your editor told you and in such a fun way. This is why she's getting paid the big bucks, right? Your writing is a blessing to many people. Congratulations on making it this far in the journey with your book. You have to be feeling like there's some glorious light at the end of the tunnel since you don't have to make many revisions. That is a testament to your skill as a writer.

I don't quite know how it happened that I found your blog. A little over a week ago I just 'ended up here.' I'm sure it was a divine intervention though. I wasn't even on my own blog site or at blogger.com at all. But I have been pulled in and your blog has become my most recent 'book' to read. I noticed first the header and wanted to know 'the story'. I started at the beginning first and each evening I cannot wait to read more. After a long day in the office, then dinner/chores and schoolwork (I am back to school full time online at 41, what a challenge!) it is then I settle down on the couch with something to drink and my laptop to read some more. Our family connects to your story. My younger sister lost her first baby... a girl who only lived about an hour. I have cried so hard the screen gets blurry at times but your strength and faith in God through it all is amazing and encouraging. I've shared your blog with others who've started reading it too. May God continue to strengthen and bless your family as you serve Him.

Praise the Lord - a half hour of editing - woohoo!!! Not only do i love - these things ---- i also love elipses..........cuz when i type - it's like i'm talking to the person..........right? :)

I'm not a sci fi person - but if i could "beam" myself to Maryland like they do in Star Trek, i totally would. I would love to hear you speak at a women's conference & be encouraged by your faith. Since being there isn't a possibility, I will cover you in prayer as you prepare & as you speak that weekend. God Bless!

Great news on the editing of the book. It's completely abnormal to have an editor tell you you'll only need half an hour of editing. Seriously--I used to work in Editorial. Technically, you should NOT have resisted putting a comma in that last sentence. You need one before, "and I tend to agree." I say that with all Christian love. :-)
  • Kathy_R · 3 months ago
    I like you.
God has gifted you with so many talents, and you USE them. So refreshing. So encouraging.

I'm in the "waiting room" of God right now...waiting on His direction in a lot of areas. It's heart-warming to see all that He is using you for.

Hi! I wanted to ask you if you scrapbook because I could have sworn I saw that picture of you and your precious daughter and husband in a magazine. This might be the most random comment you've ever had, but I had to share this with you today! :o) It's a cool day here in Missouri (upper 50's) and when the weather changes like this, I often find myself getting out my Christmas CD's. Yes, I know it's only late September, but I can't help it. I am very particular about my taste in Christmas music, and Selah's Rose of Bethlehem is one of my favorites. Especially their version of Silent Night...that has to be the best rendition EVER! :o)

Just wanted to tell ya! I might have to give away one on my blog when Christmas time gets closer!

As a former English teacher and current editor, I have a theory about commas. For the most part, people tend to use either way too many commas or virtually no commas at all. My theory is that, in the scheme, it all evens out. It's kind of like the "r's" our Boston friends drop. I think that they just float around the country and drop down in some locale where a lot of extra "r's" are needed, like when my brother-in-law from Main said "sofer." Congrats on the book.

    Continuing to pray!
Psalms 37:39-40 But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: he is their strength in the time of trouble. And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.

But that sentence needs a comma!!!:) I use the ellipse way too much...even after my husband informed me that I was using it incorrectly, since there are supposed to be spaces in between each period. Who knew? He loves ellipses as well...even says so on his blog:)

when I was teaching, I made my kids circle every comma they used and write the rule for it in the margin. ( i was so mean to those poor, poor 10th graders.) anyway, it was because i feel the comma deserves a certain amount of reverence! I, too, am a lover of what it does for the cadence, structure and power of good writing!

oh, sweet friend, I'm so excited about all that God's doing and GOING to do through you and this book. so excited.
