Bring The Rain: The Book Choice Is....

  • kellylininger · 4 months ago
I read this book for our women ministry team - our years focus will be crazy love with crazy feet - going out into the mission fields in our own backyard and giving/glorifying God with crazy love.
    Love,
    Kelly
  • ReeseH · 4 months ago
Kelly: I love the thought of showing crazy love with some crazy feet!! :-) (All the while giving/glorifying God.) Thanks for sharing!! I am so going to practice some of that focus.
    Take Care,
    Reese

I am so excited that you picked Crazy Love. I actually just finished reading it on my own, but I want to dig deeper into it!
  • MommyAngela · 4 months ago
    Great choice! ;)

I read it a few months ago, but would love to go through it with you all.
  • JD_Ladybugs999 · 4 months ago
Haven't heard of it, can't wait to read it! I'm not in the US, so going through Amazon doesn't work for me, but if my resources permit, I'll contribute towards a book for someone else who would like to join but struggles to make ends meet.

Thanks so much, Angie, this is going to be great!
  • pattijensen · 4 months ago
I am in Angie! Just ordered the book online! :) Can't wait to learn together!
  • Earlye · 4 months ago
I read this book while I was on a missions trip in Haiti and it moved me SO much. LOVE LOVE LOVE it and even though I just read it 2 months ago, I think I'll read it again with you! :)

    enjoy your reading :)
  • marandabanning · 4 months ago
Francis Chan has spoken at our church a few times now and is an AMAZING man of God! He's so real and knows exactly how to portray what God is speaking to him about. If his books are anything like his in-person speaking is, it will blow you away!
  • shermo · 4 months ago
oh that's so funny. crazy love was going to be my suggestion but i figured most everyone had read it. i've been through it twice and will be thrilled to read through it again with all of you!! it is life changing...you can watch his videos online too.
  • Lindsey · 4 months ago
Hi Angie! I was hoping it would be Crazy Love! Francis is my pastor in Simi Valley, CA. and we have all been so challenged and inspired by this book. It is life changing for sure! One cool thing about this book is that Francis has set up a charitable fund for ALL sales generated. He is then going to donate the money to a variety of amazing Christian charities like Children's Hunger Fund, Africa Renewal Ministires, etc. I am so excited to dig deeper into this text with everyone! :)
  • angelac519 · 4 months ago
AMAZING!!!! i need to find out some more about that and let my readers know....what a great thing to do...i like him already :)
  • Lindsey · 4 months ago
You can check out his blog at francischansblog.blogspot.com and the crazy love website at www.crazylovebook.com. :)
  • Tessa · 4 months ago
Yeah! I was going to suggest this book and was so excited when I saw you picked it. I actually had it reserved at the library and then did not pick it up. So I will make sure that I go get it now! I thought I would mention that as an option for those who don't want to buy it ... only problem is that you can't highlight, make notes, etc. I love motivation with reading ... cause I love to read but do not make it a priority. Excited to get started!
  • lindsaybarr · 4 months ago
Yay! I'll get my book on Friday!
  • jenninohio · 4 months ago
So excited - just ordered it and can't wait to start reading! Thanks for doing this Angie!

i would love to do a prayer book...there is one called "prayer" by richard foster that i love. also, one by phillip yancy that is amazing as well...great idea to do a study on one of those...
  • robincars · 4 months ago
i'm going to do my next small group on prayer, and am actually looking for a good book to do. i knew i should've asked you for a suggestion. i'm going to check out that book by richard foster. thanks, ang! :)

I had a feeling that is what you'd choose! I'm excited to do this! I'm especially excited to sip coffee whilst reading the book during my quiet time! Thanks so much for this idea, I look forward to reading the comments and discussions!

I'm new to your blog...and I am in LOVE with you and your family already! Ha. So excited that you are doing a little book club blogging. I am overly fond of books...sometimes to the extreme (laundry? cook dinner?)!. I will pick up the book this week!!
  • southernbelle886 · 4 months ago
i downloaded the audiobook of Crazy Love last month from christianaudio.com when they ran a promo for this.

for those of us that have a hard time sitting down to read for whatever reason... mine is simply ADHD, but they have the audio version on sale right now for 5.48 and you can download it right to your computer/iPod/mp3 player.

i've listed to the first couple of chapters, but got distracted (go figure - thanks ADHD) and haven't gotten back to it. this will be a super opportunity to get back to it!
  • katiejo11 · 4 months ago
awesome! I can't wait to get started! I just ordered mine through Amazon!!
  • Megan_HolditUptotheLight · 4 months ago
Awesome....I can't wait! I hadn't even heard of this one, but I'm headed over to Amazon now to get it and get going! Looking forward to our time together...
  • Megan_HolditUptotheLight · 4 months ago
And BTW, I totally agree with you on the ad thing. I have never had an issue with it, and it makes me sad that others even waste time worrying about such a thing. I'm gonna read what I'm gonna read....that's all. What a blessing to be able to make a little money (no matter how you chose to use it) doing something you love. I see no problem with it at all!
  • Melissa Stafford · 4 months ago
I have read Crazy Love, but I am looking forward to reading it again with you. I have enjoyed reading your blog and you have a beautiful family.
  • Krisyn · 4 months ago
I also have heard GREAT things about Crazy Love, so I can not wait to start reading it!! Yes, Same Kind of Different as Me is one of my favorites, I have been sending it in birthday packages ever since I read it!! =)

    Can't wait for this!
  • aprilbest · 4 months ago
This book was a free audio-download at christian site a couple of months ago and I listened to 3/4 of it when I was doing all the driving for my vacation a couple of weeks ago. it was really good, and challenging, i definatly teared up and cried a few times. I am at a place spiritually where I feel like I have been absent mentally for a while and am wanting to be more present. I am also craving/aching for community and hope that I will be able to particiapate in the discussions.

    thanks for hosting this
  • Annie · 4 months ago
I have been wanting to read this book for along time now and like a few others...downloaded for free a couple of months ago. We are actually starting this book in our life groups at church too! I would love to discuss it with all you gals! I just love your blog!

Hey Angie, Hopefully you have been getting proceeds from Amazon for a while b/c I sure did buy the Children's Bible that you suggested sometime last year. You're right, it is the best of the best. I love how the author related each Old Testement story to the promise of Jesus. Since I've never commented on here before, I'll also let you know that everynight we use your bedtime pray model of "something I'm thankful for, something to ask God for and something to say your sorry for." I love it and it really gets my daughter thinking at the end of the night and being an active participant in bedtime prayers. You are full of parenting tips! I am addicted to reading as well and I will definitely be getting Crazy Love. Thank you so much.

So many great nuggets that I was still thinking about, days later.

Ok, I've convinced myself - I'm totally reading it again!

I found it on iTunes for $5.95. I know that some people are highlighters/underliners (and I usually am, too!) but it's another option!

I want to play along but right now I just don't have time to read books.
But I did want to say that I think you are amazing and selfless and I pray God continues to bless your family abundantly for how you have blessed so many others!

Hmmm, sounds like a good read, but went to the online library catalog to discover this is a very popular book. 35 holds on only 10 copies! wow!

i have that book already! started reading it a few months ago, but didn't finish it. so...i'm in! :)
  • Lorraine · 4 months ago
I haven't been on in a few days and I was catching up on your last 2 posts. I have not felt much like reading lately as I have slipped back into depression, but I "won" a copy of "Crazy Love" at church a few months ago and also keep hearing how amazing it is ... so maybe this will be just the motivation I need to read it. ... and thank you for being sensitive to the fact that not all of your readers are moms or wives ... although some of us long to be :)
  • ReeseH · 4 months ago
Hi Lorraine!! I am praying for you; I just thought I felt like letting you know. Like you, I long to be a parent too. :-)
  • Brittany · 4 months ago
I just bought "Crazy Love" from your Amazon link.
    I'm in!

Love the book club idea. :)
  • sheilarye · 4 months ago
VERY COOL - my pastor just gave me CRAZY LOVE to look through and decide if I want to do it as a book study with my High School age girls at church - so the book club would be GREAT for me - it'll keep me accountable, and the book club will be just a bit AHEAD of my class, so I can use insights from here as I teach these awesome young girls! :) Just gotta love it when "GOD THINGS" like that happen! :)
  • SLM · 4 months ago
Love it! I'll be participating in the reading. I've had the book for months and just not started it.
  • Tracy Carson · 4 months ago
Bought the book tonight and look forward to reading! I just finished watching the videos he tells us too! I am excited to be caught up in something bigger than myself and am looking forward to being spurred on by this book and the discussions!
  • Kandy · 4 months ago
How cool! My Sunday School class just finished a study on Crazy Love (like last Sunday). It was fantastic! I look forward to participating in the discussion. I'm sure the book will be life changing for most of you, as it was for me.
  • meli_teak · 4 months ago
I'm excited! I have never done a book club before, so this should be interesting. It will be just when my work slows down and I'm needing some filling. Can't wait! I may end up using it as a study for my group.
  • dailydwelling · 4 months ago
I'm ordering the book through Amazon right now. It has to be shipped APO so I may be a little behind getting started, but I'm sure I'll catch up. I am so excited....I have been looking for a book to read that is going to challenge me but have been coming up blank with just the right one. This looks perfect!!!
  • ashleighsmith · 4 months ago
I am SO in!! Can't wait to get my hands on the book and start discussing! There is nothing better than a group of women sharing together. Can't wait!!
  • Rhonda · 4 months ago
You picked THE BEST book. God used this book to rock my world last year and now I'm ruined for "church as usual" and I can't go back. And the best part is that I LOVE THAT. God deserves so much more than the lukewarm Christianity that I thought was good. Reader, be prepared to be challenged in an awesomely annointed way. I really look forward to the discussion that will ensue here.
  • LittleLlamas · 4 months ago
Rhonda- I hope you mean your "view" of church is ruined (in a good way) not that you physically aren't going back to church. I think you meant your view of church has been changed, and thar is SO good. But I just wanted to encourage you and any others who may think this....that Chan in NO way means for anyone to stop going to church.
  • ReeseH · 4 months ago
WoW. Our discussion has already started.... HeeHee. J/k. :-)
  • Amber · 4 months ago
I had this book on hold and just picked it up from the library earlier this week! I started the intro yesterday, so I was SO excited to see that it was the book you chose for the book club. I am looking forward to hearing your thoughts and the thoughts of the Sundays as we dig into this book together!
  • Andrea · 4 months ago
I LOVE both of these books! Same Kind of Different As Me was a beautiful, selfless story. I was so glad to have read it. My husband and I led a college group study of Crazy Love a few months back. Good stuff is in that book. I'm excited to follow along and see what others' thought's are on Crazy Love. Francis Chan is an amazing speaker too! He's just so cool, and real. Going online to the Crazy Love website might also be of some benefit...
  • Debbie Petras · 4 months ago
I've already read "Crazy Love" but I'll read it again with you all. It's great and you can view Francis Chan's videos too. I would definitely recommend this one.
  • jodaley · 4 months ago
Looking forward to this...haven't read the book yet so I'm excited....have a great day!
  • Jody · 4 months ago
I have had this book for months. I put it on my nightstand last week, intending to start it 'soon'. I'm in on this study!
  • LittleLlamas · 4 months ago
I am in! I actually just started reading this book yesterday morning before this post! How providential! I am usually a little weary of "trendy" books and not to keen on the whole Emergent thing... but Chan is solid. And his view/challenge on Church is in love not bashin the church in any way. When I saw Tim Challies recommended it, I knew it would be a wortwhile read. (challies.com)

Ps---I also have Same kind of Different as Me on my coffeetable that I haven't picked up.
  • heatherwt · 4 months ago
You HAVE to pick up Same Kind of Different, b/c you won't put it down!! It's a little hard to get used to at first, but I promise you it's so worth forging ahead!! It's an absolutely beautiful story! And I have to say that these 2 books go perfectly together. They're like peanut butter and jelly! :)
  • Kimberlee · 4 months ago

When I saw that you were looking for a book , I immediately thought of Crazy Love. I just finished reading it with a group of my friends for the second time. It has changed all of us and our perspective on living like Christ. It has been my desire for believers across our nation to read this book, and be changed, and now that is happening! Enjoy!

hi angie. i just now finished reading through your entire site...learning about audrey and her story. and i am compelled to write, because april 20, 2009 (this year) i lost my daughter in the womb. she (haevyn) didn't have the problems that sweet audrey had, but instead she slipped into the birth canal right into her cord and suffocated. so while i don't understand your grief, i do. and i am so glad to see that life does go on. there are days that i just cry and cry. and there are days that i laugh and think about haevyn. and i find refuge in God. her name means to put trust and hope in Him...so that is what i do...but it is hard. so reading about your story helps me find peace and joy. thanks for sharing. i also blog...but not as intensely, although i would like to start. my friends say that i have something to share...but i am just trying to live my life. and if that means that writing helps, then i will continue to do so. and also. great last name....mine is the same :)

I never comment, but I can't get over the coincidence (or, it's a God-thing!) of this. I am part of a book club and my month to pick was August. I went back and forth between so many ideas (we typically choose fiction) and finally decided on Crazy Love! Our book club meets August 31. I am so excited, I just started reading yesterday. Then, what are the odds, you start a discussion on Crazy Love! Cool!
  • jennbecker · 4 months ago
I am SO SO SO excited to do this together, especially with Crazy Love. YAY! (Same kind of different as me is an amazing book too for those who haven't read it) Can't wait to hear everyone's thoughts! =)

I clicked on the Amazon link, so I hope it helps someone to get a book. I cannot wait to read it! I work Sunday nights (as a NICU RN) so I hope I can read on Mondays what y'all say on Sundays! :))
This will be so much fun!

I would be willing to click on a "ChipIn" button to help someone else to get a book. I hate for anyone to miss out on a blessing.

I am not sure if I have ever left a comment on your blog, although many times I have been tempted or perhaps I should say led. I am planning to order the book and take part in the book club. I am so excited about this. I am a SAHM in a small town where I do not know many people. This is just what I am needing to enhance my walk with the Lord and I look forward to discussing it with you and the other readers of your blog. Thank you so much for doing this!

My husband and I (and some friends) read "Crazy Love" earlier this year - it's AMAZING. Francis Chan is straightforward, challenging and best of all - Biblical in everything he brings up. You'll love it! We started listening/watching to podcasts and sermons on the church's website www.cornerstonesimi.com and our lives have changed. No more lukewarm Christians in this household!

    Angie~
First, that is an AMAZING book, it has been challenging me for days, I am almost through it, but I'm taking my time just to soak it all in.

Secondly, my husband is a youth pastor, and a girl in our youth group just lost a baby at 22 weeks. I am wondering if you know of any good books that I can give to her. When I had a miscarriage a few years ago, I couldn't find any good books to read to help me through the process. I thought there might be something new now that you would know of.

Thank you for your time and your ministry, I have been so blessed by your blog, you have an amazing gift of writing.

  • Lindsey · 4 months ago
i am so excited that you picked this book. i actually didn't comment when you asked for suggestions because i figured readers would pick parenting books (which would have been totally fine and great knowledge to store away for a time when we have kids). BUT, my husband and i have been reading crazy love together for the past couple of weeks! i can't wait to see what you have to say as we get ready to finish it up (we only have a couple of chapters left, i think). it has been such a great tool as we try to figure out where God is leading us and what He wants to do with our lives. chan is brilliantly honest and very much spreading the Message in a real way in this book. PLUS, did you know he has a new book coming out in just a few weeks? yep, september 8 or 15! that one will be about the Holy Spirit. and we also just got the runner-up choice and look forward to reading it as well!

    Hi Angie,

I've never commented on your blog before, but have been a follower for a very long time! I am so excited about this book study. I just bought Crazy Love on Tuesday, of course with no idea you were going to do a book study on it. I'm so excited about following along with this and "digging deeper"!!

    Thank you so much!

I totally went down to my local Christian bookstore (I am so blessed to have one in my very own hometown) and bought both Crazy Love & SKODAM after reading this! I think God wanted me to have both of these books, because they were both very prominently displayed on the shelves, and here I was, worried about finding them! I also found MPT's Churched in the clearance aisle, & bought it for $10, which I thought would make Jessica proud seeing as she always gets so excited by bargains!

So looking forward to your book club! Who would've thought we could do an international book club on the Internet (I'm from Australia)! Who knows, we might even get enough numbers to challenge Oprah's book club! ;)

I just wanted to say that I absolutely loved Same Kind of Different as Me. One of the best books I've ever read, that reached me to the core!

SO excited! The husband has read this and said it was absolutely AMAZING! I'm looking forward to this so much! What a great idea!

Ok, I'm game! Do you still get a portion of the profit if I buy it for my Kindle? When I click on what you posted, it puts it in my shopping cart, but I can't put it on my Kindle that way.

This looks like an awesome book. Wish i had the extra money to afford to pick it up. with having 2 small children at home there isn't a lot of extra money around at the moment. maybe i can get blessed with a copy...

Oohhh I'm so excited to be a part of a book club! What a great idea, and a great choice in book! I have read it once, but it's certainly one that a person could read over and over and still benefit from. I'm so glad someone posted his sermon website as I've wanted to get my hands on those too! Thanks!

Angie, thank you for saying that about blogs with ads. I have been wanting to do the same thing on my blog but wondered what people would think. Yeah, I probably worry too much about what people think but I had wondered.

I hope to read the book. It sounds wonderful!!

Hey Angie! *LOVE* Crazy Love, I'll definitely read it again and follow your posts!

I'd love to be able to donate a book to a reader who cannot afford one-feel free to contact me if you get requests for books!

Thank you so much for suggesting this book. I just finished chapter one and cannot stop saying "Wow" Not about the book but about our God. Cant wait to continue and to hear what you have to say about it and others as well as we read. Guess what - His next book comes out next month I believe and it is about "The Holy Spirit" Think I will be doing that next! Have a great day. God Bless.

YES do Crazy Love!!! What a message about Jesus for us all. Check out the song "Love is on the Move" by Leeland, too!!!

What an awesome book! I am about halfway through it and I may start over to be apart of your discussion!
  • womandiary · 4 months ago
oh.. I also have a blog and monetize it.. well Ithink that is okey if our blog is decorated with ads... but there should be balancing between the content and ads.. so the reader still enjoy it.. I think that is a nice book..

A dear friend LOVES "Same Kind of Different As Me" -- I am a couple of chapters into it.

I found your blog through Heather Conrad (Heal the Wound). She was in my group at She Speaks.....so I was flipping through her links. ANYway, I just bought Crazy Love a few weeks ago....and have yet to dive into it.
I would love to join your blog-book-club-review.
    Consider me in!

I just found your blog from Beth Moore's blog. I would love to join your book club. I am reading Experiencing God by Henry Blackaby but I will read fast so I can join you. Thank you!
  • PatinLagoVista · 4 months ago
I just found your blog, but count me in too. It sounds like a great book.
  • jaimealexis · 4 months ago
I recently learned of your blog and story. You are a complete blessing! Your love and conviction for God's will in your life is a true testimony of having faith. Count me in on "Crazy Love"! There's a powerful teaching from Pastor Chan on youtube titled "Luke warm and loving it", I think this teaching is a great companion to the book we are about to dive into.

Went to the bookstore to find the book and got sidetracked... by the new Selah cd!!!! Praising God for their ministry and yours. I will have to go back and get the book.
  • ToilingAnt · 4 months ago
I've got it as an audiobook-- I'll be following along. :-)

I've read both of these in the past few months and they are both my faves. Same Kind of Different as Me is my number one book of all times. I love it so much!! It changed me, for sure. Great, great books!!!

Hi Angie! I'd purchased Crazy Love earlier this summer, and for one reason or another, have continued to put off reading it; I guess this is why! I'm so excited to dig into this book with you & others. Thanks for facilitating this ~ and can't wait to hear more of C's story. Blessings! ~Callie (Lotus Blossum in Seattle :)

Hi! I am a total beginner to really working on discovering my faith -- would this book be way above my level? I would really like to get into a discussion and make some "buddies" along the way that can help me as I learn more and this seems like a great opportunity.
  • Heather · 3 months ago
Hey Angie. Do we need to sign up to be a part of this or just jump in and comment when you do a post on it? I am in and looking forward to it. I would love to give to help someone else get a book. Just let me know!
  • pianogyrle · 3 months ago
That sounds like an amazing book and if i could swing the cost right now i'd love to join in but right now it just isn't financially within the budget... Thanks for thinking of such great things to do. I love Selah's music too - they are amazing and really touch my heart when I listen.
